Ventured out from southern Oregon last weekend to spend time with my family. We went to the pumpkin patch and celebrated my brother Brant's birthday. Posted my pictures on Flickr over here and took a few silent 12-second videos of the day as well. They are quite amusing, if I do say so myself (and I do). :)
Brant just called to say that Seth and April bought 2 Wiis at Target. I am SO glad Monday is a holiday. I think I shall schedule a little road trip for this weekend.......
Took Friday off and headed to the Oregon coast for our annual extended family campout thing. The drive from Eugene to Florence was beautiful, especially in the Fern Ridge Lake area. I think it's been 20 years since I've come that way. I didn't remember it at all.
The weather was warm and sunny...right up until about 3 miles inland, where a light fog had settled in for the evening--and cooled things off considerably. Though it was in the 90s inland, Florence didn't get above 62 degrees. Thank goodness for hoodies--and heated trailers. But more importantly, thank God it didn't rain.
I stayed with Grandpa Doug in his trailer. We played lots of Yahtzee and Cribbage. My parents came up Saturday and Mom brought with her a pay-as-you-go cell phone for Grandpa. I spent part of Sunday showing him how to use it. (Cell phone interfaces could sure use a makeover. Geesh. Your audience is not all 14-year-old girls, people!)
Family gatherings, especially extended ones, are always a little bittersweet for me. At these gatherings, it always starts out with "Let's find Amber a husband; I think there are some single men camped out in the tent area..." or "When are you going to have babies? (This question was thankfully absent from this particular gathering)..." and ends with "Amber can solve 'Issue X' using THE INTERNET." But the in-between times are nice and it's always good to cultivate relationships with extended family, even if only a couple times a year.
Photos to come...not mine, but my family's...if they can figure out how to "copy and paste the pictures into MSN." (Their words, not mine.) We'll see how that goes...
